Google is reportedly developing a refreshed version of its Android Auto service that will come built into car dashboards.

The new software will bring smart features to vehicle infotainment displays without the need for a synced smartphone, according to Reuters.

The current build of Android Auto merely projects smartphone apps onto a car's dashboard, but the new system is said to be an integral part of the vehicle itself.

It is claimed that the revamped Android Auto will debut alongside Google's Android M operating system, which could launch late next year or in the first half of 2016.
