The happiest place on Earth will soon have drones buzzing above it.

As first reported by the blog Stitch Kingdom, Disney's merchandising arm has filed three patents for devices that use drones for entertainment.

All three involve "aerial displays" or air shows. One would shoot colored lights and another would create projection screens. But the coolest one by far would use drones to move large puppets, sort of like massive marionettes.

You can see an illustration from one of these patents above; here's another, featuring Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas:

The patent applications mention current technical restrictions with Disney's nighttime light shows. Images can't be quickly updated and fireworks are too unreliable. But with drones, Disney can deploy what it calls "fixels"—floating pixels that can create 3D images.

This is just the latest high-tech addition to Disney parks. They recently added RFID-equipped "Magic Bands" that track visitors and allow them to make payments on the go. Looks like Tomorrowland is going to need an upgrade.
