Google just debuted a brand new service for Gmail called Inbox, a service that runs on top of Gmail in what looks like a total rethinking of how you should handle your email.
The Verge has more background on the underlying technology, and explains that instead of using the standard list of emails, with the most recent at the top, it intelligently integrates everything from your messages and Google Now notifications to travel updates and the latest information about your purchases. Similar emails will get bundled together, and Google will pull out highlights and important information (like phone numbers) from your inbox.
Similar to functionality in apps like Mailbox, you can now snooze messages so that you don't have to deal with them now and they'll pop back up hours or days later. Reminders and to do's get pulled into the new app as well. Inbox has been the primary project of developer Jean-Marc Denis, formerly of the team that built the Sparrow email client for Mac — the company was acquired by Google in 2012.
Unfortunately Inbox isn't available for wide use yet — you'll need to sign up for an invite on the Inbox preview site.
