The confirmation of the Higgs Boson was the subject of the excellent 2014 documentary Particle Fever. The film chronicled the years-long undertaking by researchers from around the world—the largest, most expensive scientific experiment in history—to construct and turn on the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland.

In replicating the environment of the Big Bang, the team successfully identified the theoretical Higgs—a mere 14 years after Homer Simpson drew an equation estimating the particle's mass on a chalkboard during a 1998 episode of The Simpsons. Dr. Simon Singh told The Independent that Homer's calculation was only slightly larger than the "nano-mass" of the actual Higgs.

Just one more reason why The Simpsons is the smartest show of all time.
