Two of the dudes behind The Hangover are going to try to take on one of the most complex science fiction novels out there for a television event miniseries. Bradley Cooper and Todd Philips (director of like, 50 bro comedies or whatever) are teaming up with producer Graham King (The Departed) on an adaptation of Hyperion.

Hyperion, written by Dan Simmons, is a sort of trans-galactic Canterbury Tales, featuring seven travellers coming together on the eve of galaxy wide catastrophe. As each tells their story, their reasons for coming together unfold, realizing they must save the universe. It's unknown whether the series will follow just the original book, or its three sequels as well.

The series is set to air on Sy-Fy, which is turning increasingly toward science-fiction and fantasy classics for inspiration, including an upcoming mini-series of Childhood's End, Arthur C. Clarke's novel about a caretaker species who evolves other civilizations to cosmic consciousness. No air date for Hyperion has been announced, nor whether Will Ferrell or Zach Galifianakis or any of Phillip's other favorite bromedians will make an appearance.
